Getting certified as a Peer
(after completing Peer Support training)

  1. Open a web browser (like Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari, etc) and navigate to https://www.mcboard.org/peer-recovery/

  2. Under the “Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS)” section, click on “Apply Online

3. This button will bring you to a “Certemy” website. Create an account, and sign in (or just sign in if you already have an account)

4. Once registered / logged in to MCB’s Certemy page, you will see a CPRS section in the left column (circled in red in the image below). In the right column, this is a checklist of steps you need to take in order to complete the CPRS process and take the exam (steps highlighted in yellow).

5. Do each step in order. The steps in this image are not all of them, you will need to scroll down and continue beyond what is captured in this screenshot.

6. Once the checklist is completed, you will be able to click “Exam Registration Request” towards the bottom of the list. There are 2 options:

a.       IC&RC (needed if you will ever want to get your CPRS-R, etc)

b.       Minnesota State-based Exam (will get you certified as a CPRS but without the ability to add things like CPRS-R, etc)

(It almost always makes sense to choose IC&RC, but the choice is yours)

7. After completing the checklist and registering for the exam, you will receive an email with scheduling and other information needed to actually take the exam. Lookout for emails (in the inbox of the email address you used to sign up for MCB’s Certemy) and follow those instructions to schedule/complete your exam.

8. Upon passing of the exam, you will receive notification via email, and your certification will appear in your Certemy (it might not show up right away, so give it time – or reach out to MCB to see if they can send it)

There might be multiple opportunities to run into roadblocks or have questions, so included below is contact information for MCB. They are VERY helpful and responsive, so do not hesitate to reach out to MCB if needed. If you call, they likely will not answer, but leave a voicemail and they are typically pretty good about returning calls within a couple of days. They are also very responsive via email.
